2010-02-08 Launch of Eco-friendly range of products imminent

Greatpac is proud to announce the imminent launch of a new range of eco-friendly products and the launch of a new brand: “JASA Eco™.”

In Malaysia today, it is estimated that the market size for disposable food and beverage packaging products has a net worth in excess of RM220 million per annum. Out of which, a large proportion of this is polystyrene lunch boxes, in which a whopping 12 million pieces are used and discarded on a daily basis. Most of it are taken to landfills or incinerated. In the landfill, the product will not breakdown and it will still be there hundreds of years from today. When it is incinerated, large amounts of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases are emitted, contributing to global warming and climate change.

How do we stop this trend and help prevent irreversible climate change?

In 2010, it is obvious that there are many Malaysians who are genuinely concerned about the environment. In his 2010 budget announcement, Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak unveiled plans for Putrajaya and Cyberjaya to become pioneer cities for Green Technology. Funding is being provided to private industry to facilitate the development of green technology, sustainable energy and solutions to waste management. Already in Selangor, we see "No plastic bag" days initiated every Saturday and in three times a week in Penang.

This is only the beginning of the Green Wave coming over our country. However, in our everyday lives, we still rely on conventional polystyrene packaging and plastic bags for our convenience as there is no other commercially available solution present in the market until now.

At Greatpac, we are doing our part by offering a solution. That solution is JASA Eco™.

Our vision is that one day polystyrene foam and other plastic disposable packaging shall be eliminated and be eventually replaced with eco-friendly alternatives. We seek to be the pioneers and market leader in this area in South East Asia.

JASA Eco™ is a range of bio-based and biodegradable environmentally friendly food and beverage packaging products produced and sold by Greatpac Sdn Bhd.

Using a revolutionary new material called Plastarch Material® or PSM®, a patented material derived from non-genetically modified corn starch, we are able to produce a range of everyday-use items including plates, bowls, cups and cutlery. This revolutionary technology would decrease our reliance of petroleum based products, creating a greener more sustainable future.

For more information, please visit the official JASA Eco™ website or find us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter. The press launch date shall be announced soon, so watch this space!
